The TLC Link Project

Funded by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, the Link Project is scheduled to run for two years from April 2004 until March 2006. Its mission is to find hard to reach people in the London Borough of Hackney who have memory problems and may be confused. The age of the targetted clientelle is usually 50 and over but it is recognised that some younger people experience indications of an oncoming condition before it is possible for a diagnosis to be made.

Project workers provide practical help in the short term and try to make this as far reaching as possible. The project forms links with other agencies and gives advice to service users about the services they can obtain. Referrals to these agencies can be made if this is acceptable to a service user or their carer.

Where there is an unpaid carer, usually a partner, relative or friend, the project, which works in close cooperation with Hackney Carer's Centre, can offer them advice and support.

The Link Project has two sister projects also funded by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund:

TLC's Dementia Practice Development Project which provides free training in person centred dementia care and also hosts events to promote good practice in dementia care throughout the London Borough of Hackney. This project is part of the Dementia Training and Consultancy Service at TLC Care Services. For contact details click here.

The other project runs from the Hackney and City Branch of the Alzheimer's Society. It provides information, advice and support to anyone living with dementia in the area, their families and their carers. For contact details click here.
